Michael Rutter has made history by taking a seventh victory at the Macau Grand Prix on the famous Guia street circuit, beating the record set by Ron Haslam.
Rutter and Martin Jessopp took a one-two respectively as the Ducati 1198 proved its versatility in winning this 10-lap race. Rutter took the win by over 4 seconds, whilst also setting the fastest lap of the race.
Rutter who started from pole position did not have it all his own way with Ian Hutchinson taking in an early lead, with Jessopp, McGuinness and Rutter chasing. However McGuiness soon dropped back and Rutter hunted down Hutchinson to take the lead from lap four and Jessopp was soon to follow his team-mate into second.
Rutter took the race win followed by Martin Jessopp who capped off an impressive season with his best result of the season.
Martin Jessopp said “I'm really pleased, with Michael's and my result, it is really special, and we are all thrilled. I am personally over the moon in achieving my first international road race title, and it was brilliant to make the podium alongside my team mate Michael.
We ran the bikes with a similar set up to BSB, during the first lap I did make a few mistakes and scraped my leathers on the wall pretty hard but soon settled down and took it in my stride.
From a team point of view it is amazing and is a great reward for all the hard work we've all put in over the year.”
